Texan Legacy Skilled Trades Scholarship

Build a Skill. Build Your Future.

The Texan Legacy Skilled Trades Scholarship is designed for graduating Weatherford High School students who excel through effort, technical skill, character, and commitment and choose a trade school instead of a university. Welding, electrical work, HVAC, plumbing, automotive technology, and other approved skilled trades are valued paths to a strong future.

Program in development · Preliminary applications

Award amounts, deadlines, available funding, and final cycle rules have not been announced. You may submit preliminary responses below. Submission does not guarantee eligibility, selection, funding, or a response time.

Proposed eligibility

  • Be a graduating Weatherford High School senior planning a postsecondary skilled-trades program rather than a university degree.
  • Choose a recognized trade/technical school or community-college certificate program leading to a relevant credential. Admission may be pending, but program approval and enrollment are required before payment.
  • Show excellence through CTE coursework, projects, certifications, instructor feedback, attendance, work experience, or sustained improvement. A class rank or perfect GPA is not required.
  • Demonstrate dependable character, work ethic, a clear career goal, and financial need.
  • Provide a credible training plan with program length, costs, start date, and credential pursued.
  • Provide a transcript or CTE record and one recommendation from an instructor, employer, counselor, or mentor at final review.

How applications will be reviewed

Proposed review priorities: trade aptitude and commitment (30%), character and work ethic (25%), financial need (25%), and training-plan readiness (20%). Selection values demonstrated skill and potential, not university attendance or athletic participation.

A committee will review complete applications consistently. Reviewers disclose conflicts and step aside when appropriate. No donor may select a named recipient. Only verified, funded awards will be offered.

What support can cover

Proposed awards support tuition, required fees, certification/testing fees, and program-required tools, protective equipment, or materials. School and program suitability will be verified. Payments would go to the school or approved vendor whenever practical; general vehicle purchases and optional equipment are outside the proposed scope.

Trade school is a valued first choice. This independent Texan Legacy Group program does not require a university application.
